KUCHING – A significant ceremony recognising the dedication of former security personnel was held at the Pullman Hotel Grand Ballroom on Wednesday. The event saw 301 veterans from both the Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysian Police receive state honours for their service.
His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, officiated the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Sarawak presentation. He was accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, throughout the proceedings.
Upon arrival, the gubernatorial couple were greeted by several senior officials, including Tourism Minister Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. Also present were Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal bin Abdullah and 1st Malaysian Infantry Division Commander Major General Mohd Sobirin bin Haji Mohd Yusuf.
The occasion attracted numerous dignitaries who gathered to witness the recognition of national defenders. Among them were State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar and Deputy Public Health Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
Additional attendees included Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee and Majlis Islam Sarawak President Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha. Deputy State Secretary Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua joined department heads and other distinguished guests in celebrating the recipients.
Prominent figures led the list of award recipients during the formal investiture. These included Dato Haji Idris bin Buang, General Tan Sri Dato Sri Affendy Buang (R), Tan Sri Dato Sri Mohd Jamil bin Haji Johari, and Dato Mohd Chee Abdul Kadir.
Further honours were conferred upon Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahab bin Haji Julai and Datuk Awang Bujang bin Haji Awang Antek. Datuk Gingkoi Seman Pancras and Datuk Haji Khir bin Haji Busrah were also among those recognised for their contributions.
Posthumous recognitions formed a poignant segment of the ceremony. Tuan Haji Fazillah bin Dato Sri Haji Alli Kawi accepted the medal on behalf of the late Dato Sri Haji Alli Kawi, whilst Datin Maznah binti Jantan received it for her late husband Datuk Mohd Johnny bin Mustapha.
Other notable recipients included Dato Nyomek anak Nyeap, Datu Chai Khin Chung, Dato Clarence Rorote anak Sagon, and Dato Mohamad Morshidi bin Mustapha. Their inclusion highlighted the diverse backgrounds of those who served.
Additional medals were presented to Dato Sulaiman bin Abdul Razak, Dato Benjamin bin Hasbie, and Dato Alladin bin Kassim. Brigadier General Dato Muhammad Daniel @ Damien bin Abdullah (B) and Dato S Sathiya Seelan completed this group of honourees.
