KUCHING – Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar attended Friday prayers at the Sarawak State Mosque on 14 August, joining senior state leaders and religious officials for the weekly congregational prayers.
The Governor was welcomed upon arrival by Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) Chief Executive Officer Datu Haji Abdul Hadi Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir, alongside mosque staff and officers from Astana Sarawak.
Wan Junaidi later joined Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for the Friday prayers.
Also present were Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar and Sarawak Mufti Sahibus Samahah Datu Haji Khalidi Haji Ibrahim.
Other senior officials who attended included SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Haji Abdul Aziz Dato Haji Husain and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Abdullah Julaihi.
The Friday prayers were led by the Grand Imam of Sarawak, Sahibul Fadilah Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal Haji Ahmad Fauzi.
In his sermon, the Grand Imam delivered a message entitled “Integrity, the Core of Sarawak’s Prosperity”, highlighting integrity as an important principle linked to the well-being and development of the state.
The participation of the Sarawak Governor and senior state officials in the congregational prayers also brought together key representatives of the state administration and religious institutions at the mosque.
Friday prayers, held each week at mosques across the state, provide an important occasion for the Muslim community to gather for communal worship and listen to the weekly sermon.
The presence of senior public figures at the Sarawak State Mosque underscored the role of the institution as one of the state’s prominent places of worship.
The sermon topic on integrity also complemented wider discussions surrounding responsible leadership, public accountability and ethical conduct.
These principles remain relevant to public institutions and the wider community, particularly in promoting trust and confidence in governance.
Following the prayers, Wan Junaidi spent time greeting members of the congregation before leaving the mosque.
His interaction with worshippers provided an opportunity for him to meet members of the public following the completion of the Friday prayers.
The visit formed part of the Governor’s official activities in Kuching and brought together representatives from the state leadership, public administration and religious sector.
