KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, received a courtesy visit from Malaysia’s Digital Minister at the State Legislative Assembly today, underscoring Sarawak’s growing role in the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
The meeting focused on advancing Sarawak’s digital progress and included discussions on the upcoming Borneo Animation & Games Festival 2026 (BAGF), scheduled for August next year.
The festival is envisioned as a landmark event for the region, designed to match the prestige of the Annecy International Animation Festival in France.
According to officials, BAGF 2026 will serve as a central platform for nurturing digital talent, showcasing creative innovation, and positioning Sarawak as a hub for animation and gaming.
The festival is expected to attract participation from global industry leaders including Walt Disney, DreamWorks, Netflix, Sony Pictures Animation, Konami, and Nintendo.
The Premier emphasised that such initiatives are vital for building a resilient digital creative ecosystem in Sarawak.
By hosting international players and fostering collaboration, the state aims to strengthen its digital economy while opening doors to strategic partnerships across borders.
The proposal for BAGF 2026 aligns with Sarawak’s broader vision of becoming a leader in digital innovation.
The festival is expected to generate opportunities for local creators, encourage knowledge exchange, and inspire the next generation of digital professionals.

Also present during the courtesy visit were Deputy Digital Minister YB Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong and Secretary-General of the Digital Ministry Tuan Fabian Bigar, reflecting the federal government’s support for Sarawak’s digital ambitions.
