KUALA LUMPUR – The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) conducted an official visit to the headquarters of Opus Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd on 17 April, focusing on strengthening road asset management through the Road Assets Management System (RAMS).
The delegation, led by Ir. Wisil anak Lichok, Deputy Director of the Infrastructure Sector, sought to gain deeper insights into the system’s concept, functions, and best practices.
RAMS has been widely applied in infrastructure projects across Malaysia, and the visit provided Sarawak JKR with an opportunity to explore how similar approaches could be adapted to enhance efficiency in the state.
The programme included a tour of the Command and Control Centre (CnC), where the delegation observed centralised monitoring and management operations for infrastructure assets.
Presentations were also delivered on pavement research, infrastructure solutions, and cable-stayed bridge maintenance, highlighting the importance of specialised expertise and continuous monitoring to ensure long-term safety and durability.
A live demonstration of the RAMS system showcased how analytical software and integrated data can support more accurate decision-making.
This data-driven approach is expected to improve road maintenance efficiency, optimise financial allocation, and extend the lifespan of infrastructure assets.
The visit also served as a platform for technical knowledge exchange. Discussions covered data collection methods, road condition analysis, and maintenance planning, with emphasis on the role of modern technology in asset monitoring.
Such exposure is seen as crucial for JKR Sarawak as it works to modernise its infrastructure management practices.
Officials noted that adopting systematic and high-impact methods in road asset management will help ensure safety and comfort for road users across Sarawak.
The initiative aligns with broader state goals of sustainable infrastructure development and improved public service delivery.
The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of JKR Sarawak’s commitment to strengthening its road asset management capabilities.
By learning from established practices at Opus Consultants, the department aims to implement more effective strategies that will benefit communities and support long-term growth.
