Sarawak Para Athletes Shine with Tenpin Bowling Gold in Bangkok

BANGKOK – Sarawak’s para athletes once again shone on the international stage, clinching a gold medal in tenpin bowling at the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.

The victory came in the Men’s Doubles category, where the Sarawakian pair Muhammad Razif Iskandar and Abang Yahya Abang Azhar delivered an exceptional performance to outplay their competitors and claim the top prize.

The medal ceremony was officiated by Sarawak’s Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, who was on hand to offer moral support to the athletes during the prestigious Games.

Malaysia’s tenpin bowling team enjoyed a strong overall showing, winning five gold, five silver, and one bronze medal. Sarawak athletes contributed significantly to this success, securing two golds, one silver, and one bronze for the national tally.

Officials highlighted that the achievements reflect not only the athletes’ dedication and preparation but also the effectiveness of Sarawak’s para sports development programme, which nurtures talent and provides structured support for athletes with disabilities.

Dato Sri Fatimah, who was in Nakhon Ratchasima from 24 to 26 January 2026, stressed the importance of personally encouraging Sarawakian athletes during the Games.

Her presence underscored the Sarawak Government’s commitment to empowering athletes and promoting inclusivity in sports as part of its broader human capital development agenda.

The accomplishments of Sarawak’s para athletes highlight the state’s growing reputation in regional sports, showing how investment in training, facilities, and welfare programmes can translate into international success.

The 13th ASEAN Para Games, held from 21 to 26 January 2026, brought together athletes from across Southeast Asia, celebrating resilience, inclusiveness, and unity through sports.

For Sarawak, the triumph in tenpin bowling marks a proud moment, reflecting both athletic excellence and the state’s vision of progress through inclusivity.
