BINTULU – The Bintulu Car Free Morning (BCFM) programme at Pantai Tanjung Batu drew strong community participation on 23 May 2026, with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg joining hundreds of residents in a series of health and community-centred activities.
The initiative, designed to encourage active living and environmental awareness, reflects the Sarawak Government’s ongoing commitment to promoting wellness and strengthening social bonds.
The Premier’s arrival at around 7.00 am was warmly received by local leaders, government officials and participants who had gathered for the occasion.
Accompanying him was his daughter, Dayang Norjihan, who also took part in the activities. The programme began with a mass aerobics session, where the Premier joined the crowd in a lively workout.
This was followed by the symbolic handover of plogging equipment to participants, highlighting the importance of combining exercise with environmental care.
Plogging, which involves jogging while collecting litter, has gained traction globally as a sustainable practice that encourages both fitness and cleanliness.
The event continued with community-based activities such as Games Riuh Sekampung and Kidzoona, which attracted families and young people.
These activities were designed to foster inclusivity and strengthen ties among residents, while also providing recreational opportunities for children.
Organisers emphasised that BCFM is not only about promoting physical health but also about nurturing unity between leaders and the public.
By engaging directly with citizens in such programmes, the state government aims to build a progressive and inclusive Sarawak that prioritises sustainability and community well-being.
The Premier’s participation underscored the government’s broader vision under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, which seeks to ensure Sarawak’s growth is supported by modern infrastructure, healthy communities and environmentally conscious practices.
Events like BCFM serve as platforms to instil civic pride and encourage residents to adopt healthier lifestyles.
They also highlight the government’s efforts to balance development with ecological responsibility, ensuring that Sarawak remains a vibrant and sustainable state for future generations.
