Sarawak Premier Receives Courtesy Visits from BDY and Religious Affairs Minister

KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, welcomed two separate courtesy visits at his office in the Satria Pertiwi Complex on 20 April 2026.

The first delegation was from the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum (BDY), led by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The visit centred on extending an official invitation to the premier to officiate the opening of the Brooke Dockyard Industrial Heritage Museum, scheduled for the same day.

Discussions during the meeting also covered the programme for the opening ceremony and updates on the Sarawak Museum Department’s latest initiatives. Present at the session were Puan Nancy Hj Jolhi, director of the Sarawak Museum Department, and acting deputy director Ms Yasmin Khalid Nicholls.

The second courtesy call was made by Senator Dr Zulkifli bin Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), marking his first working visit to Sarawak since his appointment in December 2025.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the federal government and Sarawak in managing Islamic affairs.

Key areas of cooperation discussed included Tabung Haji operations, religious education, and dakwah programmes.

The Premier was also briefed on preparations for Sarawak’s role as host of the national-level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Council next year, which requires coordination and approval at the state level.

Accompanying the minister were Senator Marhamah binti Rosli, deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs); and Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, deputy minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Islamic Affairs).

Also, present were Dato’ Dr Sirajudin bin Suhaimee, Director-General of JAKIM; Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council; and Sahibus Samahah Datu Khalidi bin Haji Ibrahim, Mufti of Sarawak.
