NANJING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, arrived in Nanjing today to begin a significant working visit aimed at strengthening Sarawak’s collaboration with key industrial and energy partners in China. The three-day visit marks another step forward in Sarawak’s push for sustainable growth and international partnerships, especially in the fields of clean energy and low-carbon development.
The Premier flew in from Bangkok after delivering a keynote address at the International Water Association conference. He was greeted upon landing at Nanjing Lukou International Airport by several senior officials, including Petros chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo and Petros Senior Vice President for Human Capital, Corporate Relations and Services, Tuan Haji Ismail Said. Also present were China Jiangsu International Corporation chairman Song Qinbo and the company’s Vice President, Deng Yajun.
Throughout the visit, scheduled from 10 to 12 December 2025, the Premier is expected to witness the signing of an agreement between Petros and China Jiangsu International Corporation. The agreement will formalise CJI’s role as an anchor partner in the development of the Kuching Low Carbon Hub, a major initiative under Sarawak’s long-term clean energy ambitions. Meetings and engagements will also take place in Nanjing and Suzhou, both known for their strong industrial sectors and advanced technological development.
The Premier is accompanied by several key figures from Sarawak’s energy landscape, including Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and Petros) Datuk Haji Ibrahim Haji Baki, Petros Group Chief Executive Officer Dato Janin Girie and Petros Senior Vice President for Growth Datuk Joseph Podtung. Their presence underscores Sarawak’s intention to deepen cooperation with Jiangsu province, particularly in areas involving hydropower, hydrogen development and future-oriented energy solutions.
Jiangsu is recognised for its robust industrial ecosystem and expertise in high-tech innovation, making it a natural partner for Sarawak’s resource-rich energy sector. The visit is expected to accelerate initiatives under the Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030, which aims to drive sustainable economic progress and move Sarawak closer to its goal of net-zero carbon emissions.
As Sarawak continues to pursue modern, low-carbon pathways while honouring long-standing development principles, this working visit signals a determined effort to secure meaningful partnerships that can support the state’s future growth.
