Arriving at the market, the Premier enjoyed a breakfast featuring iconic local dishes such as mee kampua and tumpik. His choice of traditional foods reflected the cultural identity of Sibu and highlighted the importance of supporting local culinary heritage.

During the visit, the Premier mingled with traders and visitors, taking time to interact with members of the public. He also fulfilled requests for photographs, creating memorable moments for those present.

The informal engagement was seen as a gesture of appreciation for the community’s continued support and a way to strengthen ties between leadership and residents.

The Premier inspected the operations of Sibu Central Market, observing the activities of traders and the flow of customers.

He stopped at several stalls to purchase goods, symbolising his support for local economic growth and the empowerment of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

His actions underscored the government’s commitment to encouraging grassroots economic activity and sustaining livelihoods.

The visit was attended by several distinguished figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee; Temenggong Dato Sri Wan Hamid Edruce; Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar; and Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau. Their presence highlighted the significance of the occasion and the collective support for community engagement initiatives.

Sibu Central Market, known as one of the largest indoor markets in Malaysia, plays a vital role in the local economy.

It provides a platform for traders to sell fresh produce, traditional foods, and household goods, while also serving as a social hub for residents. The Premier’s visit reinforced the market’s importance as both an economic and cultural centre.

Observers noted that the Premier’s engagement with traders and the public reflects a broader approach to governance that emphasises inclusivity and direct interaction.

By supporting local businesses and participating in community activities, leaders demonstrate their commitment to ensuring that development initiatives benefit people at all levels.

The visit to Sibu Central Market followed the Premier’s earlier participation in environmental conservation activities at Bukit Lima Nature Reserve, where he joined a brisk walk, witnessed a pangolin release, and planted saplings.

Together, the two events showcased a balance between environmental stewardship and community development, reinforcing Sarawak’s vision of sustainable progress.

Community members expressed appreciation for the Premier’s presence, noting that his willingness to engage directly with residents strengthens trust and fosters a sense of unity.

Traders welcomed his support for local economic activities, which they believe will encourage greater recognition of SMEs as key contributors to Sarawak’s growth.

The Premier’s visit concluded with breakfast alongside local leaders and community representatives, further cementing the importance of dialogue and collaboration in shaping Sarawak’s future.
