KUCHING (Nov 11): In a groundbreaking announcement, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has tabled the state’s largest-ever budget for 2025, totaling RM15.8 billion. The budget, described as expansionary, marks a significant milestone in the state’s financial history, with a focus on driving development and economic growth.

Of the RM15.8 billion allocated, RM4.9 billion will be earmarked for Operating Expenditure (OE), while RM10.9 billion is designated for Development Expenditure (DE). This represents a 16% increase in overall expenditure compared to the RM13.6 billion budget for 2024.

“The 2025 State Budget proposes an Ordinary Expenditure of RM13.7 billion, with RM4.9 billion allocated for Operating Expenditure and RM8.8 billion directed to the Development Fund Account,” Abang Johari shared during his speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting.

The Operating Expenditure will primarily cover personnel emoluments, supplies, services, grants, and fixed payments. Specifically, RM1.2 billion (24%) will be allocated to staff wages and benefits, RM1.9 billion (39%) for supplies and services, and RM1.6 billion (33%) for grants and fixed payments, which include statutory bodies, local authorities, and various welfare programs. Additionally, RM96 million will go towards asset procurement, while RM113 million will cover other operational expenses.

Abang Johari emphasized the importance of effective public spending, stating that it is essential for stimulating economic growth, providing public services, and supporting future development. “It is crucial to focus on high-impact, productive activities to ensure that programs are efficiently executed,” he explained.

The Development Expenditure of RM10.9 billion will be the largest in Sarawak’s history, continuing to allocate significant funds to key sectors to stimulate the state’s economy. The Premier believes that this allocation will make Sarawak’s economy stronger, more robust, and better equipped for future challenges.

The 2025 State Budget is a testament to Sarawak’s commitment to sustainable growth and development, with an emphasis on infrastructure, public welfare, and economic resilience.
