KUCHING, 12 May 2025 — A group of political secretaries to the Sarawak Premier has stepped forward to defend the state leader’s dignity after an alleged insulting post surfaced on social media. The group, led by Abdul Samad Gany, filed a police report today at the Satok Police Station against a Facebook account named “Mike Rain”.
According to Abdul Samad, the post uploaded by the account contained derogatory and disrespectful remarks directed at the Sarawak Premier. He stressed that the content was publicly accessible and could stir hatred, tarnish the image of the state leadership, and indirectly impact their families.
“This kind of post does not only insult our Premier but also has the potential to disrupt public peace and unity in Sarawak,” he said when approached by reporters after making the report.
He further expressed concern over the wider impact such online posts could have on social harmony, especially among Sarawakians who value respect and leadership integrity.
As part of the report, Abdul Samad urged the authorities, particularly the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to carry out a thorough investigation. He believes that firm action should be taken under existing laws such as the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, or any other relevant legislation.
“We must not allow these types of statements to go unchecked. It sets a dangerous precedent and could harm the fabric of our society,” he added.
