LIMBANG – The Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has intensified its enforcement efforts through Ops Cegah, targeting at-risk communities in Lawas and Limbang districts.
The operation, carried out by the Limbang District AADK in collaboration with the Sarawak State AADK, was conducted in line with amendments to Act 283 – the Drug and Substance Abusers and Addicts (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
During the operation, which took place on 19 June 2026, a total of 13 individuals were arrested. All of them were men aged between 28 and 68 years, and initial screenings confirmed they tested positive for methamphetamine (METH).
No minors were involved, and no physical seizures of drugs were recorded. The arrest profile revealed that two individuals were aged 28 and 31, nine were between 40 and 50, and the remaining two were aged 66 and 68.
All those detained were charged under Section 3(1) of the Act, which provides for detention, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals suspected of drug addiction.
Convicted offenders may be ordered to undergo rehabilitation either at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (PUSPEN) or within the community.
AADK Sarawak emphasised that the operation reflects its ongoing commitment to curbing drug abuse in high-risk areas.
The agency stressed that methamphetamine abuse remains a serious concern, posing risks not only to individuals but also to community safety.
Ops Cegah forms part of the broader national strategy to achieve the “Controlled Drugs 2030” goal, which aims to reduce drug abuse through enforcement, rehabilitation, and community engagement.
The agency reiterated its determination to intensify operations and send a clear message that Sarawak is committed to being free from the threat of drugs.
Members of the public are encouraged to support these efforts by reporting suspicious activities or seeking advice.
AADK provides a toll-free hotline at 1-800-22-2235 and a WhatsApp contact at 019-626-2233 for assistance.
This latest operation highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of enforcement in safeguarding Sarawak’s future from the dangers of drug abuse.
