KUCHING — The Malaysia Sarong Music Run 2025 successfully brought culture to life in an energetic and creative fashion, celebrating traditional heritage with a youth-friendly twist.

Officiated by Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the event highlighted how tradition can be presented in a fresh, inclusive format without losing its essence.

“This event is a manifestation of culture in a vibrant and modern form,” said Abdul Karim. “It shows that with creativity, we can revive our traditional roots in a way that appeals to today’s generation and keeps our heritage alive.”

Held on Saturday in Kuching, the event carried the theme ‘Sarong, Music and Unity’, and featured a 5-kilometre fun run where participants showcased their colourful and uniquely styled sarongs. The run was accompanied by live music, interactive art sessions, and cultural exhibitions, creating a festive atmosphere that merged tradition with contemporary entertainment.

Meanwhile, Tupong State Assemblyman and Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, noted that the overwhelming participation — especially among youths — demonstrated how modern approaches can successfully bring people together across generations and communities.

“This is proof that celebrating culture creatively not only preserves it but also unites us, regardless of age, race or background,” he said.

The Malaysia Sarong Music Run is now being hailed as a new cultural benchmark, showcasing how heritage can be shared in exciting and relevant ways for the future.
