MIRI, 13 May 2025 – A school van was destroyed in an early morning fire along Jalan Rejang, Taman Tunku here today. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a distress call regarding the fire at 6.43am. A team from Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Miri Sentral), located about 12 kilometres away, was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found the school van already 70 percent engulfed in flames. They quickly launched their fire extinguishing operation using a two-stream water technique along with a single foam stream to suppress the blaze.
The flames were successfully brought under control by 7.05am, and the entire operation concluded by 7.26am.
Authorities confirmed that no students or individuals were inside the van when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
This incident has raised concern among parents and the local community, as many rely on school vans as a daily mode of transport for their children. Safety inspections and maintenance of school transport vehicles are now being urged to ensure similar incidents do not happen in the future.
Fortunately, due to the quick response by the fire brigade, a potentially tragic situation was averted.
Residents in the area are reminded to report any signs of vehicle overheating or smoke immediately to the authorities.
