Elderly Woman Rescued After Being Trapped in Two-Vehicle Crash at Serian

SERIAN: A 62-year-old woman sustained injuries after she was trapped in the front passenger seat following a two-vehicle collision at the Kampung Munggu Limo U-turn near Serian this afternoon.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the department received a distress call regarding the incident at 1.54pm, prompting the dispatch of a rescue team from the Serian Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene.

“When the team arrived at 1.59pm, they found that the accident involved a Toyota Avanza and a Perodua Alza. One female victim, aged 62, was trapped in the front passenger seat and sustained injuries to her left leg,” the statement said.

Firefighters immediately carried out rescue efforts using Holmatro Power Cutter equipment to cut open the vehicle’s front door and free the trapped woman.

The operation, led by PBK II Christopher Tungoh, involved eight firefighters, along with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.

Also assisting in the operation were three members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and three Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel.

“The trapped victim was safely rescued and handed over to MOH officers for further treatment,” the spokesperson added.

The entire rescue operation was completed by 2.28pm, after the situation at the site was declared safe.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, especially around U-turn areas which often pose higher accident risks.
