The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of the project and ensuring that implementation remains on schedule.

At the site, Datuk Aidel received a technical briefing from Ir. Ts. Christopher Donovan, Assistant Engineer (Development) of JKR Kapit Division, alongside the consulting team and contractors.

The session covered the latest updates on physical progress, achievements to date, and the overall implementation plan leading up to completion.

Technical challenges encountered during construction were also discussed, along with mitigation measures designed to maintain quality, safety, and timely delivery.

The Sungai Musah Bridge reconstruction project is currently in its implementation phase and is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

Once finished, the new bridge will provide safer and more comfortable passage for road users, strengthen connectivity between surrounding areas, and improve accessibility for local residents.

The project is anticipated to benefit more than 40 longhouses, schools, and healthcare facilities, thereby supporting socio-economic growth in Kapit Division.

Officials highlighted that the reconstruction is part of the Sarawak Government’s broader strategy to modernise rural infrastructure.

By replacing ageing structures, the initiative seeks to ensure resilient and efficient transport networks that meet modern safety standards.

The project also reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of rural communities through improved accessibility.

During the visit, emphasis was placed on ensuring the safety of river traffic throughout the construction period.

Contractors have been tasked with safeguarding waterway users, particularly residents who rely on river transport, while bridge works are ongoing.

The visit was attended by several senior figures, including YB Lidam anak Assan, ADUN N.62 Katibas; Deputy Director (Technical Services) Ts. Meehan anak Jorai representing the Sarawak Director of Public Works; Principal Senior Assistant Director (Monitoring & Implementation) Ir. Ts. Bujang anak Kanang; Senior Assistant Director (Bridges & River Structures) Ir. Ts. Bong Yan Phing; and members of the Sarawak Public Works Department team.

Officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development and the Song District Office were also present.

Community leaders have welcomed the reconstruction project, noting that improved infrastructure will reduce travel risks and enhance daily life for residents.

The new bridge is expected to facilitate smoother access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, while also strengthening the resilience of rural communities against environmental challenges.

The Sungai Musah Bridge reconstruction stands as a clear example of Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to balance development with inclusivity.

By investing in rural infrastructure, the government aims to create safer, more connected communities and lay the foundation for long-term growth across the state.
