RM20,000 Boost for SK Sebena to Strengthen Rural Education

DARO – Educational development in rural Sarawak has received a significant boost with a RM20,000 contribution channelled to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sebena. The funds, provided jointly by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and SK Sebena, will support the implementation of school programmes and initiatives throughout 2025.

The contribution was announced during the SK Sebena 2025 Student Excellence Awards Ceremony, officiated by Igan Member of Parliament, Ahmad Johnie Zawawi. He emphasised that the initiative reflects the community’s commitment to nurturing the future of rural children and demonstrates strong collaboration between local institutions and residents.

Ahmad Johnie highlighted that the support is not only financial but also symbolic of the community’s dedication to producing a competitive generation in rural areas. “To succeed, students must study hard, diligently and consistently. Parental support is very important in ensuring children’s success to the highest level,” he said.

The ceremony also witnessed the presentation of RM10,000 each from JKKK and SK Sebena, underscoring their shared commitment to strengthening educational development. The funds will be directed towards enhancing school programmes, supporting student activities, and improving facilities.

Community involvement in education has long been recognised as a key factor in improving outcomes for rural students. By pooling resources, local committees and schools can provide opportunities that might otherwise be limited due to geographical and economic challenges.

Ahmad Johnie further noted that such contributions help bridge the gap between rural and urban education, ensuring that students in smaller communities are not left behind in terms of access to quality learning. He stressed that education remains the foundation for building a stronger and more resilient society.

The Student Excellence Awards Ceremony celebrated the achievements of pupils who excelled academically and in co-curricular activities. The event served as a reminder of the importance of recognising student success while encouraging continuous improvement.

The RM20,000 contribution is expected to have a lasting impact on SK Sebena, enabling the school to expand its programmes and provide better support for both teachers and students. It also reflects a growing trend of community-driven initiatives aimed at uplifting rural education in Sarawak.

With continued cooperation between schools, local committees, and parents, SK Sebena hopes to build a stronger educational ecosystem that empowers students to reach their full potential.
