Day Four of Skrang Search Effort Ends Without Breakthrough by APM Lubok Antu

SKRANG – The search and rescue operation for Igoh Anak Sengaling, an 84-year-old man reported missing near Rumah Panjang Tebarong, continued into its fourth day on Monday, 23 February 2026.

The coordinated effort involved multiple agencies, including the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) from Lubok Antu and Betong, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Betong, RELA, and local villagers.

The operation commenced at 6.08am and was divided into two teams. One group carried out a water search covering up to seven kilometres towards Rumah Panjang Pelasok, while the other conducted a land search within a five-kilometre radius from PKTK.

Despite extensive coverage, the missing individual had not been located by 2.00pm. Heavy rainfall forced the suspension of the search later in the afternoon, with plans to resume on Tuesday, 24 February, at 8.00am.

Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward immediately to assist in the ongoing effort. Community cooperation is seen as vital in operations of this scale, particularly in rural areas where terrain and weather conditions can pose significant challenges.

Search and rescue missions in Sarawak often require joint collaboration between agencies and villagers, reflecting the importance of local knowledge in navigating rivers, forests, and longhouse settlements. Officials emphasised that the safety of search teams remains a priority, especially when adverse weather hampers visibility and mobility.

The case of Igoh Anak Sengaling has drawn concern among residents, with many offering support to the search teams. Such operations highlight the resilience and solidarity of Sarawak’s rural communities, where collective action is essential in responding to emergencies.

The authorities reiterated their commitment to continue the search until the missing person is found, stressing that every effort will be made to bring closure to the family and community.
