Kampung Stapok Sports for All Program Promotes Unity and Healthy Living

Kampung Stapok “Sports for All” Program Promotes Unity and Healthy Living

KUCHING – The “Sports for All” program organised by JKKK Kampung Stapok, KRT Kampung Stapok, and Kampung Wanita & Belia Stapok has received praise from Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, for its efforts in promoting health, unity, and community spirit.

The event brought together children from 10 kindergartens around Batu Kawa, alongside local residents including Pak Cik and Mak Cik from Kampung Stapok. The gathering was filled with joy as participants engaged in a variety of traditional and modern games designed to strengthen community ties and encourage healthy living.

The activities included tug of war, badminton, dart throwing, and the ever-popular “run with a ping pong ball.” Traditional culture was also celebrated through ketupat weaving sessions, while National Day spirit was highlighted with a patriotic dress-up competition and a coloring contest for the young participants.

Dr Sim congratulated the children, parents, and organisers for making the program a success, noting that such events are vital in fostering unity among different generations. He also highlighted the importance of building a healthy society as the foundation for Sarawak’s progress.

Community leaders further suggested introducing Pickle Ball in future editions of the program, a sport suitable for both young and elderly participants, allowing more inclusive involvement.

“Sports for all means health for all. We need everyone to be healthy in order for Sarawak to be healthy. Only when each of us is healthy can we actively contribute to Sarawak’s nation-building,” Dr Sim said.

The Kampung Stapok “Sports for All” program is seen as an exemplary effort that strengthens social bonds, promotes active lifestyles, and nurtures patriotic values among the people of Batu Kawa. It stands as a model for other villages across Sarawak to emulate.
