SRI AMAN – Firefighters contained a repeat fire near a lumber mill in Pantu, Sri Aman, after responding to the incident shortly after midnight on Friday.
The Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station received the emergency call at about 12.40am on 14 August. The location was approximately 58 kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that a fire was burning near the lumber mill. The blaze was confined to an area of less than one acre.
The operation was led by PBK I (TBK I) Mohd Fadhli bin Buyong. A Scania Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle were deployed to the location.
The firefighting team used full personal protective equipment while assessing the situation before beginning suppression work.
A 300-foot water hose line was deployed to reach the fire, allowing firefighters to tackle the affected area near the lumber mill. The team continued the operation until the fire was brought under control.
Two personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were also involved in the response.
Once the fire had been extinguished, firefighters conducted a further assessment of the area. No additional immediate hazards were reported, allowing the team to conclude the operation and return to the station.
However, the response was carried out under several challenging conditions. Firefighters reported that there was no readily available water source at the incident location, requiring them to manage water supplies during the suppression effort.
Limited mobile network coverage in the Romeo 2 area also presented a communication challenge for the responding team. Insufficient lighting at the scene added another difficulty during the overnight operation.
Despite these constraints, firefighters were able to contain the blaze within the affected area of less than one acre.
The incident was classified as a repeat fire, although the report did not provide details on when or how many times the area had previously experienced fire.
The overnight response demonstrates the challenges faced by emergency crews when attending fires in locations far from their station, particularly when access to water, communications and lighting is limited.
The firefighters completed the suppression operation after confirming that there were no further immediate dangers at the scene.
The cause of the fire was not stated in the incident report. No injuries or casualties were reported in the information provided by the fire and rescue authorities.
