MIRI – A road accident involving two four-wheel drive vehicles occurred along Jalan Suai-Niah on the Pan Borneo Bintulu-Miri Highway, leaving several passengers injured.
The incident, which took place on the busy stretch heading towards Miri, involved a black Toyota Hilux carrying three individuals and a silver Hilux transporting four passengers. The collision caused injuries to four people, two from each vehicle.
Emergency responders from the Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the team carried out an assessment and monitoring of the situation.
It was confirmed that the injured had already been taken to nearby clinics for medical attention, and no rescue operations were required at the site.
According to the operation commander, a male and female passenger from the black Hilux were transported by ambulance from Suai Clinic to Batu Niah Clinic for further treatment.
Meanwhile, another male and female passenger from the silver Hilux were taken by ambulance from Niah Clinic to Batu Niah Clinic.
The Pan Borneo Highway, which serves as a vital link between Bintulu and Miri, has seen an increase in traffic volume in recent years.
Authorities have consistently reminded motorists to exercise caution, particularly on stretches where heavy vehicles and passenger cars share the road.
Local residents have expressed concern about the frequency of accidents along this section of the highway, citing speeding and driver fatigue as common contributing factors.
Road safety campaigns have been carried out in Sarawak to raise awareness among motorists, with enforcement agencies urging drivers to prioritise safe practices.
The Fire and Rescue Department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety, emphasising that swift coordination between clinics and emergency teams is crucial in reducing risks during such incidents.
The department also highlighted the importance of community vigilance, encouraging the public to report accidents promptly to facilitate rapid response.
This latest accident underscores the need for continued road safety education and stricter adherence to traffic regulations.
