Tematu Ethno Fest 2025 Launches in Batu Kitang, Celebrating Unity and Culture

TEMATU, BATU KITANG – The Tematu Ethno Fest 2025 was officially launched over the weekend, marking its 10th year of cultural celebration in the heart of Batu Kitang. Previously known as the Gawai Tematu Carnival, the event has evolved into a more dynamic and inclusive festival, bringing together communities of various backgrounds to celebrate Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage.

The officiating ceremony was graced by Batu Kitang Assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who thanked Mr. John Pata and the entire organising committee for the invitation and praised their commitment to preserving and promoting unity through cultural celebration.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Mr. John Pata and all members of the organising committee for inviting me to officiate this meaningful event,” said Lo. “Congratulations to everyone involved for making this 10th year of the festival more lively, inclusive, and engaging. Your efforts have truly elevated the spirit of this celebration.”

Lo highlighted that the festival continues to play a vital role in fostering racial harmony and cultural appreciation in the constituency. “Events like Tematu Ethno Fest not only invigorate the Gawai spirit but also strengthen the unity between races and cultures in DUN Batu Kitang,” he added.

A wide range of engaging activities were held throughout the festival, including exhibitions by government agencies, health awareness talks, children’s competitions, and the traditional “Bitanding Paddle Gawea” event. These programmes drew enthusiastic participation from the local community and visitors alike, further cementing the festival’s reputation as a major annual highlight.

Lo also expressed pride in the unwavering unity shown by Sarawakians during such festive occasions. “I am proud to see the people of Sarawak continuing to stand united—regardless of race or religion, we can all share joy and celebrate our cultural heritage together,” he said.

He called on the community to continue upholding the spirit of reconciliation and to safeguard the peace that Sarawak enjoys today. Lo also officially unveiled the theme for Ethno Fest 2025, symbolising a renewed commitment to togetherness and cultural pride.

Tematu Ethno Fest remains a shining example of how grassroots cultural initiatives can bring people together, fostering mutual respect, community wellbeing, and a shared sense of identity across all backgrounds.
