At least three injured in overnight Russian drone strikes on Kharkiv and Sumy

UKRAINE – Overnight, Russian drone attacks injured at least three civilians in the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Sumy, escalating tensions as a White House-imposed deadline for progress toward ending the invasion looms.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the strike in Kharkiv caused fires in a four-storey residential building, resulting in two injuries. In Sumy, a separate strike on a residential building injured one person. Authorities were seen extinguishing fires and clearing rubble following the attacks.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia deployed 108 drones—comprising Shahed attack drones, decoy drones, and kamikaze drones—during the overnight offensive. Ukrainian air defences intercepted 82 of them, but 26 penetrated defences and struck 10 locations.

The strikes came just ahead of a U.S. deadline for Russia to demonstrate serious steps toward de-escalation—or face tighter economic sanctions.
