KUCHING – Multi-agency coordination and proactive disaster planning took centre stage during a flood preparedness briefing for the Tupong constituency, aimed at strengthening readiness ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
The session, held at Hana Sofiyya Hall along Jalan Astana on Tuesday afternoon, brought together representatives from security forces, rescue units and technical departments directly involved in disaster management.
Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier and Tupong Assemblyman, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, attended the briefing, underscoring the state leadership’s commitment to safeguarding communities in flood-prone areas.
Discussions focused on early preparations for the monsoon period, including emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and aid delivery mechanisms. Agencies were urged to streamline coordination to ensure swift and effective responses during emergencies.
Dato Fazzrudin highlighted the importance of early preparedness in reducing risks and minimising the impact of floods. “Preparedness is crucial in protecting lives and property, especially in vulnerable areas,” he said, stressing that agencies must remain vigilant and responsive to their roles.
He also emphasised the need for close cooperation between government agencies and local communities, noting that effective communication and shared responsibility are vital to ensuring residents’ safety and well-being.
The briefing concluded with a discussion and question-and-answer session, clarifying agency responsibilities and identifying areas for improvement. The exercise forms part of continuous efforts to strengthen flood management strategies in Tupong.
Sarawak has consistently prioritised disaster preparedness, with similar briefings held across constituencies to reinforce resilience against seasonal flooding. The state’s proactive approach reflects its broader commitment to protecting communities and ensuring rapid response capabilities during emergencies.
