KUCHING – The first blood donation campaign of the year organised by the Unit for Other Religious Affairs (UNIFOR) has been hailed a success, with 104 pints collected during the event at Aeroville Mall, Jalan Stutong Baru, on Sunday, 19 April 2026.
The drive, held from 10 am to 3 pm, was led by UNIFOR Director Yang Berbahagia Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau, alongside Deputy Director Mrs Caroline Chen.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank and Aeroville Mall, reflecting a shared commitment to public health and community service.
Organisers described the turnout as encouraging, with donors from diverse backgrounds contributing to the campaign.
The event was part of UNIFOR’s ongoing mission to foster social harmony through practical acts of service, reinforcing Sarawak’s values of compassion, inclusivity and unity.
Since 2023, UNIFOR has conducted biannual blood donation drives, each serving as a reminder of the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding community well-being.
The latest campaign continued this tradition, offering residents an opportunity to contribute directly to saving lives.
Speaking at the event, Dato Georgina highlighted the significance of the campaign, noting that every pint donated represents more than just a number.
It is a lifeline for patients in need and a symbol of hope for families facing medical challenges. She emphasised that the initiative demonstrates Sarawak’s spirit of togetherness, where kindness transcends race, faith and background.
Medical experts have long stressed the importance of maintaining adequate blood supplies, particularly in hospitals where demand can fluctuate due to emergencies, surgeries and chronic illnesses.
Campaigns such as UNIFOR’s play a vital role in ensuring that blood banks remain well-stocked, reducing the risk of shortages.
The event also underscored the role of community partnerships in promoting public health. By working with institutions such as the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank, UNIFOR has been able to extend its reach and impact, ensuring that donations are processed and distributed effectively.
Organisers expressed gratitude to all donors who participated, describing them as heroes whose contributions will make a lasting difference.
The campaign reaffirmed the belief that small acts of kindness, when multiplied across communities, can have a profound effect on society.
UNIFOR’s Blood Donation Drive 1.0 2026 has set a strong precedent for the year ahead, with further campaigns expected to continue strengthening Sarawak’s culture of care and mutual respect.
