Venezuela Declares State of Emergency, Denounces US Military Aggression

Caracas, Venezuela – The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has issued a strongly worded statement denouncing what it describes as “extremely serious military aggression” by the United States against its territory and population.

According to the official communiqué, airstrikes targeted both civilian and military areas in Caracas, as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira, causing widespread damage and heightening fears of regional instability.

The Venezuelan government said the attacks represent a “flagrant violation” of the United Nations Charter, particularly Articles 1 and 2, which prohibit the use of force and uphold the sovereignty of states.

The statement accused Washington of attempting to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources, including oil and minerals, and of seeking to impose “regime change” through force.

“They will not succeed,” the government declared, insisting that Venezuela’s people and institutions remain united in defence of sovereignty and independence.

President Nicolás Maduro has signed a decree declaring a State of External Commotion across the country, activating national defence plans and ordering the deployment of the Command for the Comprehensive Defense of the Nation.

The decree, issued under Venezuela’s Constitution and national security laws, authorises immediate mobilisation of armed forces, police, and civilian defence units.

The government also called on citizens to take to the streets in protest against what it described as “imperialist aggression.”

It vowed to raise formal denunciations before the United Nations Security Council, the Secretary-General, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Non-Aligned Movement, demanding condemnation and accountability from the United States.

In its statement, Venezuela invoked Article 51 of the UN Charter, reserving the right to exercise legitimate self-defence.

It appealed to governments and peoples across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the wider world to show solidarity against the attacks.

The communiqué drew historical parallels, recalling President Cipriano Castro’s defiance during foreign bombardments in 1902 and citing the words of Hugo Chávez, who once declared that in the face of adversity, “the response of all patriots is unity, struggle, battle, and victory.”

The escalation comes amid mounting regional concern, with neighbouring Colombia already urging de-escalation and calling for urgent international dialogue.

Venezuela’s latest statement underscores the gravity of the crisis and signals its readiness to respond militarily if necessary.
