Wellness Hub Sibuti Opens to Promote Healthy Living

SIBUTI – Residents in Sibuti now have access to a new health facility with the opening of the Wellness Hub Sibuti on 26 April 2026.

The centre was officiated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for P.218 Sibuti, YB Dato Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni.

The Wellness Hub is part of the MADANI Government’s Healthy Malaysia National Agenda, designed to shift the focus from treating illnesses to prevention and lifestyle empowerment.

It represents a strategic step in strengthening community well-being by encouraging healthier living practices.

In his opening speech, Dato Lukanisman highlighted findings from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, which revealed concerning trends in obesity and sedentary lifestyles among Malaysians.

He stressed that the Wellness Hub Sibuti would serve as a one-stop centre for the community, offering opportunities to learn and adopt healthier habits.

“People should not only come when they are sick, but also to learn how to stay healthy through skill-oriented development,” he said.

Starting in 2026, the hub will provide a range of services including health screenings, risk assessments, lifestyle and weight management consultations, fitness activities, resilience guidance for teenagers, and mental and physical well-being programmes.

These services are designed to support individuals across different age groups, with a particular emphasis on youth engagement.

Dato Lukanisman expressed hope that teenagers and young adults in Sibuti would take full advantage of the facility, fostering a culture of prevention from an early age.

He also called for cooperation among community leaders, private agencies, and NGOs to ensure the services reach grassroots communities effectively.

The opening ceremony was supported by the Sibuti Wellness Hub Implementation Committee, the Health Education Division of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, the Miri Division Health Office, MyChampion volunteers, and other strategic partners. Their collaboration was acknowledged as vital in making the initiative a success.

Several senior health officials attended the event, including Puan Suraiya binti Syed Mohamed, Director of the Health Education Division; Dr Veronica Lugah, Sarawak State Health Director; Dr Mohammad Nazarudin Bahari, Deputy State Health Director (Public Health); and Dr P. Raviwharmman Packierisamy, Miri Division Health Officer.

The Wellness Hub Sibuti is expected to become a cornerstone for promoting healthier lifestyles in the region, supporting Malaysia’s broader vision of preventive healthcare and community resilience.
