KUCHING – WWF-Malaysia paid a courtesy visit to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak on 21 April 2026, reinforcing collaboration in conservation and environmental management.
The session, held at Menara Pelita, was chaired by Deputy Controller (Management) Mr Kenny Poon. The visit introduced WWF-Malaysia’s team and provided updates on ongoing conservation initiatives across Sarawak.
Presentations covered the organisation’s work in key landscapes, including the Ulu Ai-Sedilu Orangutan Landscape, the Rajang Freshwater Protection Landscape, and the Northern Sarawak Connectivity Landscape.
Among the initiatives highlighted were orangutan conservation in Ulu Sungai Menyang, rehabilitation efforts at SALCRA Lemanak OPE, and preservation projects at Jagoi Heritage Forest and Gunung Lesong-Ulu Sebuyau.
WWF-Malaysia also shared updates on mangrove conservation and marine mammal protection in Rajang-Belawai-Paloh, sustainable pepper planting in Katibas, enhancement of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas in the Pasin Project Forest Management Unit, and sustainable paddy cultivation in Ba’ Kelalan.
The organisation emphasised its current collaboration with NREB through Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) engagement, policy input, and technical sharing.
Looking ahead, WWF-Malaysia outlined plans to continue EIA engagement, explore green infrastructure development, and maintain open discussions for future cooperation.
Officials noted that the courtesy visit provided a strategic platform for strengthening networks between agencies and sharing best practices.
Both parties agreed that collaboration is essential to improving the quality of environmental health services, ensuring they remain efficient, sustainable, and competitive.
WWF-Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sarawak’s conservation goals, particularly in protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable land use.
NREB welcomed the partnership, recognising the importance of joint efforts in addressing environmental challenges and safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
