KUCHING, May 15 – Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor has been appointed as the Chairperson of the newly established Jawatankuasa Pilihan Khas Ombudsman Sarawak, a move seen as an important step towards strengthening governance and accountability in the state administration.
The appointment was approved by the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly during its recent sitting, marking a new chapter in Sarawak’s efforts to improve transparency, checks and balances, and public service delivery.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Wanita PBB Sarawak extended its congratulations to the Lingga assemblywoman, describing the appointment as a reflection of the trust and confidence placed in her leadership and experience.
Dayang Noorazah, who is also a member of the Wanita PBB Sarawak Supreme Council, has long been active in state politics and community development. Her latest appointment is expected to place her at the forefront of efforts to ensure that recommendations made by the Sarawak Ombudsman are properly monitored and implemented.
The formation of the special committee is regarded as a significant institutional development for Sarawak. Observers believe the committee will play an important role in strengthening oversight mechanisms within the public sector while improving accountability among government agencies and departments.
The Ombudsman system generally serves as an independent platform to address public complaints, administrative weaknesses, and governance-related matters. With the establishment of the Jawatankuasa Pilihan Khas Ombudsman Sarawak, the state government is expected to further reinforce public confidence in the administration by ensuring that complaints and recommendations are handled effectively.
Wanita PBB Sarawak noted that Dayang Noorazah’s experience and dedication would contribute positively towards enhancing good governance practices and efficient public administration across the state.
The organisation also expressed confidence that her leadership would help ensure the committee carries out its responsibilities effectively in line with the state’s aspirations for a more transparent and accountable administration.
Political analysts view the establishment of the committee as part of Sarawak’s broader efforts to modernise governance structures while maintaining effective oversight on public institutions. The move is also seen as timely amid growing public expectations for stronger accountability and improved service delivery within government agencies.
As Sarawak continues to advance its development agenda, the appointment of experienced leaders into oversight roles is expected to contribute towards strengthening institutional integrity and reinforcing public trust in the state administration.
The appointment of Dayang Noorazah has also been welcomed by party members and supporters, who described it as a well-deserved recognition of her years of service and commitment to the people of Lingga and Sarawak as a whole.
