MUKAH – Police have arrested two local men aged 47 and 32 over suspected involvement in drug abuse activities in the Mukah town area.
The arrests were made at about 11 am on 26 August 2026 during an operation conducted by officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Mukah District Police Headquarters.
According to Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal bin Alias, the two men were detained during the operation after police became suspicious of their condition.
A search of the two suspects did not uncover any prohibited items, police said. They were subsequently taken to the Mukah District Police Headquarters for further examination and action.
Urine screening later returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine for both suspects.
Police are investigating the case under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which relates to the self-administration or misuse of dangerous drugs.
If convicted under the provision, an offender may face a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to two years. Police supervision may also apply in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.
The two suspects are employed as a labourer and trader, respectively, according to police. They are currently being held at the Mukah Police Station lock-up while police continue their investigation.
The detention is intended to assist officers in completing the investigation process and establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged drug use.
Police did not report the seizure of any drugs during the operation. The positive urine screening results form part of the ongoing investigation, while any further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation and applicable legal procedures.
The case highlights the continued enforcement work by the Mukah District Police Headquarters against suspected drug abuse and trafficking activities in the district.
DSP Muhamad Rizal said the district police would continue strengthening efforts to address drug-related offences and disrupt activities associated with drug abuse and trafficking.
Members of the public with information concerning suspected drug abuse or drug trafficking in the Mukah district have been encouraged to report it to the Mukah District Police Headquarters hotline at 084-871222.
Information can also be provided at any nearby police station, police said. Police said cooperation from the community could assist enforcement agencies in identifying suspected drug-related activities and supporting efforts to maintain public safety in the district.
The two men remain under investigation, and the allegations against them have not been tested in court.
