Two Men Arrested in Miri for Suspected Cable Theft in Mega-Lush Ops

MIRI, 25 Feb 2025 – Two local men were arrested during the Integrated Mega-Lush Operation carried out by the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division on Tuesday.

The operation, which took place around 4.30 pm, involved members from Miri IPD’s Criminal Investigation Division, the Lutong Police Station RCJ, and other enforcement agencies including Sarawak Energy and Telekom Malaysia. Authorities conducted roadside inspections near the MYY Mall building, Jalan Agama Off Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram, Lutong.

Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Arrest

During the inspection, authorities spotted a suspicious-looking car parked at the roadside. A closer check revealed a cable reel hidden in the car’s rear bonnet. The cable, believed to belong to the Sesco Sarawak Malaysia substation, was suspected to have been stolen.

Both suspects were immediately arrested at the scene. The case is currently under investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft-related offences.

Authorities Crack Down on Cable Theft

Cable theft has been a growing concern in Sarawak, causing disruptions to power supply and communication services. Authorities have been stepping up operations to curb such activities, warning that stern action will be taken against offenders.
