LAWAS: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) is more than just a messenger for the government—it’s a vital link connecting the government and the people. UKAS ensures that the voices of rural communities are heard and their needs are addressed, making it a key player in Sarawak’s development.
Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), highlighted UKAS’s growing role in sharing accurate information about government policies. He emphasized that UKAS is crucial in reaching rural areas, where people need clear details about development projects, welfare programs, and educational initiatives.
“Every development plan is based on the needs of the people. UKAS doesn’t just share information—it listens to the community and brings their feedback to the government,” said Datuk Abdullah during the UKAS Council meeting at the Vibrant Ramadan 2025 Community event in Awat-Awat Village last Friday.
The event, attended by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, showcased UKAS’s commitment to community engagement. Contributions were distributed to the asnaf group (those in need), firefighter volunteers, and local mosques. Additionally, families of accident victims received aid through a collaboration between UKAS, PETRONAS, and the Bukit Sari Service Center.
The villagers also enjoyed 1,000 packs of porridge and joined in Maghrib, Isyak, and Tarawih prayers, strengthening community bonds. The ceremony was graced by dignitaries, including Former MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, ADUN Batu Danau Dato Paulus Palu Gumbang, UKAS Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, and NRDA Director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latif.
