Man Shot by Friends in Bau Over Suspected Drug Dispute

BAU, SARAWAK – A 37-year-old man was seriously injured after being shot in the stomach and arm by his own friends in the early hours of the morning in Serikin, near Bau. The incident, which occurred around 4.00am yesterday, is believed to be linked to a drug-related dispute.

Bau District Police Chief, DSP Dr Daram Ruer, confirmed that the victim was shot with a shotgun. Fortunately, he survived the attack and is currently recovering at Sarawak General Hospital after doctors successfully removed three pellets from his body.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim and the suspects know each other,” said Dr Daram.

In a swift follow-up operation, police arrested three men and one woman, all in their 30s, believed to be involved in the shooting. The arrests were made shortly after the incident at Jalan Siol Kandis, Petra Jaya in Kuching.

Police believe the motive behind the shooting may be connected to drugs, but the case is still under investigation to determine the full circumstances leading to the violent act.

The authorities are also working to determine the ownership of the shotgun used in the shooting and whether it was obtained legally or illegally.

This shocking incident highlights ongoing concerns about drug-related violence and illegal firearms within Sarawak communities. The police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, the victim is reported to be in stable condition and under close medical observation. Further updates on the case are expected as investigations progress.
