DALAT – A wasp nest the size of a football was successfully destroyed in Kampung Balan Hilir, Dalat, on 25 June 2026.
The operation was carried out by the Alpha Squad of the Civil Defence Force (APM) Dalat following a report lodged with the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD).
The nest, located in a residential area, had raised concerns among villagers due to its size and the potential danger posed to nearby residents.
Wasp colonies are known to become aggressive when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe pain or allergic reactions.
The swift intervention by APM Dalat ensured that the threat was eliminated before any incidents occurred.
The Alpha Squad employed a combination of ridsect spray and controlled burning to neutralise the nest. This method was chosen to guarantee complete destruction and prevent the insects from returning.
The operation was conducted safely, with no injuries reported among the officers involved. Local authorities highlighted the importance of community vigilance in reporting insect nests.
Residents are strongly advised not to attempt removal themselves, as improper handling can lead to serious harm. Instead, emergency teams are trained and equipped to manage such hazards effectively.
Insect nest destruction cases are not uncommon in Sarawak’s rural and semi-urban areas, where vegetation and structures provide suitable habitats for wasps and other stinging insects.
The proactive response by APM Dalat reflects their commitment to public safety and their readiness to act swiftly when threats arise.
The Civil Defence Force continues to remind the public of its guiding principle, “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, which underpins all emergency operations.
Their role extends beyond immediate intervention, as they also work to raise awareness about environmental hazards and encourage safe practices among communities. For emergencies, residents can contact APM Dalat at 084867357, which operates 24 hours a day.
The unit also shares updates and safety information through its official TikTok channel, ensuring that the public remains informed about ongoing operations and community safety measures.
