New SDNU Sarikei Building Stands as Pillar of Dayak Unity and Progress

New SDNU Sarikei Building Stands as Pillar of Dayak Unity and Progress

SARIKEI – The newly completed block of houses under the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sarikei Branch has been hailed as a significant symbol of unity and advancement for the Dayak community in Sarikei.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, said SDNU is more than just a formal organisation — it is the heart and soul of Dayak unity and a key platform for voicing the community’s aspirations.

“It is a vital foundation in upholding the rights, dignity, and socio-economic progress of the Dayak people,” he said during the official inauguration of the new building on Wednesday.

Dato Sri Huang, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Sarikei and State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Repok, encouraged SDNU Sarikei to remain a driving force of positive change for the Dayak community.

He also revealed that SDNU Sarikei has received RM420,000 in funding under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) between 2018 and 2025, allocated to upgrade its hall infrastructure and facilities.

“This clearly reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to listening to and addressing the needs of the people,” he added.

The new building is expected to not only enhance the operational capacity of SDNU Sarikei but also serve as a multifunctional space that benefits the wider community, beyond the organisation’s own activities.

Dato Sri Huang called on all members and local residents to utilise the improved facilities for communal development, underscoring the importance of collective empowerment.
