MIRI — In a vibrant display of unity and energy, more than 1,500 participants gathered at the Miri City Stadium today for a mass Zumba session to kick off Sarawak Day 2025 celebrations.
The event was officiated by Sarawak Minister of Transport and Minister in Charge of the Sarawak Day 2025 Celebration, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who praised the community’s active involvement and highlighted the deeper meaning behind the state celebration.
“Sarawak Day is more than just commemorating our state’s formation — it reflects our shared identity, spirit of harmony, and continued progress,” said Lee in his opening speech.
He further emphasised the importance of this year’s theme, ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’ (Progressive and Prosperous Sarawak), stating that it reflects not only the state’s physical and economic growth, but also its focus on community well-being — including health, unity, and quality of life.
“Sarawak’s journey forward begins with its people — healthy, resilient, and united. We must remain strong to build our future together,” he added.
Lee also expressed hopes that such community-centric programmes would be organised regularly, involving more people across all age groups to promote active living as part of a new lifestyle culture in Sarawak.
The Zumba event marks the start of a series of activities leading up to Sarawak Day on July 22, with more celebrations scheduled across the state in the coming days.
