Sarawak Gas Roadmap to Attract RM300 Billion in Investments Over 10 Years

MIRI – The Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) is expected to be a game changer for Sarawak’s economy, with projections of attracting RM300 billion in investments and generating RM120 billion in value from the gas production and services sector over the next decade.

Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, revealed the ambitious projection during his keynote address at the Sarawak Day 2025 celebration held at the Miri City Stadium.

He emphasised that the implementation of downstream industries and renewable energy initiatives under the SGR will not only add value to Sarawak’s natural resources but also contribute significantly to job creation and income generation across the state.

“I am confident that when the Sarawak Gas Roadmap is fully implemented within 10 years, it will attract RM300 billion in investments and generate RM120 billion from gas-related production,” said the Premier.

In addition to the oil and gas sector, Sarawak is targeting the production of up to 15,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2035, a portion of which is planned for export to ASEAN countries. This renewable energy strategy aligns with Sarawak’s broader vision under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Premier Abang Zohari also reported Sarawak’s robust financial performance, noting the state’s record revenue of RM14 billion and the largest-ever budget of RM15.8 billion. These figures, he said, demonstrate the capacity of the GPS-led state government to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The Premier stressed that Sarawak’s growing financial strength is largely due to enhanced oil and gas revenue, including increased State Sales Tax (SST) collection and profit-sharing arrangements with Petronas and Sarawak’s own oil and gas company, Petros.

“Operationalising our rights over Sarawak’s oil and gas resources has increased our revenue and empowered us to develop a more competitive and developed state,” he said.

The celebration was officiated by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, with other dignitaries present.

The Premier concluded by reaffirming the state’s commitment to equitable economic growth and addressing income disparities, ensuring that Sarawak’s development benefits all layers of society.
