The celebration was officiated by Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Manis and Chief of PBB Meradong Branch. In his address, Ir Yusuf urged the community to continue honouring the sacrifices of Sarawak’s freedom fighters and to value the leadership that has shaped the state’s growth post-independence.

“We celebrate Sarawak Day to remember the deeds of the past freedom fighters. They were willing to fight and risk their lives for our freedom from British colonisation,” he said.

He also encouraged the public to support the ongoing efforts of today’s leaders as Sarawak continues its journey toward becoming a more progressive and inclusive state.

Beyond reflecting on historical milestones, the event also focused on strengthening social cohesion and preserving the rich cultural customs of Sarawak.

The program was designed to engage residents of all ages and featured an array of activities, including a dart competition, Sarawak Flag Run, colouring competition, and the crowd-favourite Half Dish Cooking Competition, which received enthusiastic participation from the local community.

The vibrant celebration served as a powerful reminder of the unity, heritage, and patriotic pride that continue to shape Sarawak’s identity.
