Residents’ Commitment Drives Success of Development Projects in Mulu

MARUDI – The commitment and enthusiasm of rural residents have been instrumental in ensuring the success of various development projects in the Puyut and Lubuk Nibung areas, directly improving the well-being of the local community.

One of the key projects providing immediate benefits is the installation of gabion structures at Rumah Panjang Gawong, Selejau. Implemented through the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), the project aims to address long-standing issues of flooding, erosion and cliff collapse faced by villagers.

Additionally, through allocations under the Small Rural Projects (MRP) scheme and strong community cooperation, three new longhouses were successfully completed. These include Rumah Lalo and Rumah Anja, each equipped with clean water supply, electricity, and multi-purpose hall facilities.

During a working visit on Saturday, Mulu State Assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala praised the residents for their dedication and assured continued support for further development initiatives in the area.

He also inspected the Rumah Serakup SIDS Pampang Marudi alongside the Chairman of the Marudi Branch SIDS, Cr Yanti Nyanggau. The Serakup House serves as a hub for women’s activities, including meetings, dance classes, Zumba sessions, and community programmes.

Datuk Gerawat also congratulated Cr Yanti on her recent appointment as a Member of the Supreme Council (MKT) of SIDS, noting that her role would further strengthen women’s participation in social and community development.
