SIMUNJAN – A temporary house in Kampung Sageng Hilir was completely destroyed in a fire this afternoon, leaving seven occupants homeless but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to Operations Commander PBK I Fairus Jamain, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call regarding the incident at 2.36 pm. A team of 10 personnel from the Simunjan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene along with a Light Fire and Rescue Vehicle (LFRT) and a Hilux.
“The team arrived at the location at 2.40 pm and found that the house, measuring approximately 25 by 52 square feet, was already 100 percent engulfed in flames. Firefighting efforts were carried out using a 300-foot stream with two jets from a mechanical pump, with water supplied from a nearby hydrant,” he said.
He explained that the fire was successfully brought under control within 10 minutes, at around 2.50 pm. Firefighters then continued with thorough overhaul work to ensure the blaze was fully extinguished and no hidden embers remained.
The house was occupied by seven people at the time of the incident, including one adult man, two women, three boys and a girl. All of them managed to escape the burning structure in time, escaping unharmed.
While the cause of the fire has not been officially determined, investigations are underway to identify the source of the blaze. Authorities will also assess the extent of losses suffered by the family.
This incident once again highlights the importance of fire safety awareness, especially in rural villages where access to emergency response services can be more challenging.
