KUCHING – The legal dispute between PETRONAS and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has been temporarily put on hold after both parties jointly requested an adjournment at the High Court in Kuching on Monday.
In a joint statement, the two companies confirmed that the adjournment was granted to allow ongoing negotiations to proceed, with the aim of reaching a mutually beneficial resolution.
The case revolves around a RM7.95 million bank guarantee, which PETROS alleges PETRONAS wrongfully claimed for gas supplied. The dispute, which first surfaced in October 2024 when PETRONAS demanded payment, has since evolved into a high-profile legal battle.
While court proceedings were advancing, both parties agreed to a one-month adjournment from August 25, 2025, to continue discussions in hopes of finding a collaborative settlement.
Observers note that the outcome of this case will be closely watched, given its potential implications for state-federal relations in the energy sector and future resource management frameworks in Sarawak.
