KUCHING — The Jualan Madani programme made its way to Kampung Haji Baki this morning, bringing affordable essential goods directly to the local community.
Batu Kitang assemblyman, YB Dato Lo Khere Chiang, joined residents at the event, which aimed to ease the cost of living through discounted household necessities. Among the items offered were rice, sugar, cooking oil, and other daily essentials, sold at prices up to 20% lower than the market rate.
The initiative drew strong support from villagers, many of whom expressed gratitude that the government was taking proactive steps to reduce their financial burden. With the rising cost of living affecting families across the nation, the programme ensured that basic goods remain within reach for ordinary households.
Speaking at the event, Dato Lo highlighted the importance of such ground-level efforts in helping the community. “I am truly encouraged to see so many residents turning up to support and benefit from this programme. Beyond just discounted goods, it reflects the government’s commitment to caring for the people and making sure no one is left behind, especially during challenging times,” he said.
Organised with the cooperation of several agencies and community groups, Jualan Madani is part of an ongoing nationwide initiative to provide targeted assistance. In Batu Kitang, the programme not only offered cheaper goods but also strengthened ties between leaders and the community, reinforcing a sense of unity and shared responsibility.
Many residents were seen stocking up on essentials, noting that the savings helped stretch their monthly budgets. For families with school-going children and elderly dependents, the price reductions provided much-needed relief.
Dato Lo also expressed appreciation to the organisers and agencies involved for ensuring that the programme reached the grassroots level. “Together, we continue to build a caring and supportive community,” he added.
With growing participation in similar programmes across Sarawak, Jualan Madani has proven to be an effective model in ensuring that no one is left behind in the government’s pursuit of a more balanced and inclusive society.
