Pipe Burst in Batu 10 Old Town: Swift Action by KWB, Cleanup Ongoing

KUCHING — A major water pipe burst at Batu 10 Old Town yesterday afternoon caused disruption to residents and businesses in the area. The incident occurred around 3pm, leaving roads messy with mud and debris as water gushed out from the damaged pipe.

The matter was brought to the attention of Batu Kitang assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang, by Cr. Lim Liang Kee and Penghulu Lim Eng Huat. Following the alert, Lo immediately contacted the Kuching Water Board (KWB) for urgent assistance.

In a statement, Lo expressed his gratitude to the General Manager and officers of KWB for their prompt response in addressing the emergency. Repair works were carried out swiftly to stop the leakage and restore water supply to affected households.

“While I am thankful for the quick action by KWB, the area is still in a mess after the repairs. I have requested KWB to clear the debris quickly to avoid further inconvenience to the public,” Lo said.

He also extended his sincere apologies to the people of Batu 10 for the disruption caused by the incident. “I deeply appreciate your patience, understanding, and support while the repairs were carried out,” he added.

The pipe burst had temporarily affected water pressure in several parts of Batu 10 Old Town, though supply has since stabilised. Local residents, however, remain concerned about road safety due to the leftover debris and water patches along the roadside.

Lo assured the community that continuous efforts will be made to improve infrastructure in Batu 10. “Together, we will continue working to make Batu 10 safer, cleaner, and better for everyone,” he emphasised.

Residents are advised to exercise caution when travelling near the affected site until cleanup works are completed.
