KUCHING – Residents of Taman Mewah now have a safer and improved space for sports and recreation following the official handover of the refurbished basketball court funded under the Sarawak Government’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).
This morning, N13 Batu Kitang representative Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang officially handed over the upgraded facility in a ceremony supported by the local community and organised by JKKK Batu 3 – Batu 6.
“The refurbishment of this basketball court is made possible thanks to the RTP funding from the Sarawak Government,” Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang said during the event. “I am grateful for the strong support from the local community, and I believe this improved facility will benefit our youth and residents alike.”
The project focused on repairing and upgrading the court to provide a safer and more enjoyable environment for sports enthusiasts. The refurbished court features better flooring, improved markings, and new equipment to ensure players have a modern facility to enjoy basketball and other recreational activities.
Local residents expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Many highlighted that the upgraded basketball court would encourage youth engagement in sports and foster stronger community bonds. “Having a proper and safe court means our children and teenagers can focus on healthy activities instead of staying idle at home,” said one parent who attended the handover.
The Sarawak Government’s RTP aims to improve rural infrastructure and facilities, ensuring that communities across the state have access to better recreational and development opportunities. With this project, Taman Mewah sets an example of how community involvement, supported by government funding, can lead to tangible benefits for residents.
The handover ceremony concluded with a friendly basketball match involving local youth, demonstrating the immediate impact and excitement generated by the refurbished facility.
