KUCHING – The Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division, Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sarawak, has arrested 34 foreigners during a series of enforcement operations conducted around Kuching City and Kota Samarahan between 22 and 23 September.
The large-scale operation, which involved 37 officers, targeted foreigners suspected of working or residing in the state without valid permits or passes. According to JIM Sarawak, the team inspected 96 individuals during the two-day exercise, and 34 of them were detained for offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Those arrested comprised 21 men and 13 women of various nationalities. They are suspected of violating different sections of immigration law, including overstaying, entering the state without valid travel documents, and working without permits.
JIM Sarawak stressed that the operation reflects its ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration activities in the state. The department also reiterated that enforcement will continue regularly to ensure all foreign nationals comply with Malaysian immigration laws.
In a statement, JIM Sarawak said the presence of undocumented immigrants poses potential risks to the local economy and security. “We are committed to ensuring that only those with valid passes and permits are allowed to work and stay in Sarawak. This is important to safeguard the interests of the state and its people,” the statement added.
The department further urged members of the public to assist by reporting any suspicious activity related to undocumented immigrants. Information provided will help enforcement agencies take swift action against those breaking the law.
The 34 individuals arrested will be processed and investigated under relevant provisions of the Immigration Act, and further action, including deportation, will be taken once investigations are complete. — Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia Sarawak
