Family in Tears After School Stabbing Tragedy in Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA – A sad scene took place at the Pathology Department of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) today as the family of a 16-year-old schoolgirl arrived for the post-mortem. The girl, a Form Three student, was believed to have been stabbed to death by her schoolmate at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.

The incident happened around 9.10am on Tuesday in the girls’ toilet area. The suspect, a 14-year-old Form One boy, was said to be carrying a knife before attacking the victim.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said a teacher heard screams from the toilet and quickly alerted others. Police arrived soon after and arrested the boy. They also seized two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be remanded tomorrow at the Petaling Jaya Court for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” said Shamsudin.

He added that the victim suffered serious injuries on several parts of her body and was sent to PPUM for an autopsy. The motive behind the attack is still being investigated, and police have not confirmed the exact type of weapon used.

When reporters visited the school, many parents and guardians were seen waiting at the gate, worried about their children. Students looked shocked and afraid after hearing about the incident.

“I was scared when I saw the boy enter our class holding a knife,” said one Form One student. Another student said he heard a girl screaming before seeing someone run down the stairs.

Police also denied rumours spread on social media claiming the stabbing was caused by a love affair. Shamsudin said the police are still investigating all possibilities and urged the public not to believe unconfirmed stories.

The incident has left the community shocked and sad, with many calling for stronger safety measures and better mental health support in schools.
