Kapit Leaders Deliver Aid to Longhouse Fire Victims

Kapit Leaders Deliver Aid to Longhouse Fire Victims

KAPIT – A delegation of senior politicians has visited a longhouse community in Sungai Ibau to offer support following a destructive fire.

The visit, conducted under the Ziarah Perihatin programme, was jointly arranged by the Kapit Parliamentary and Bukit Goram Constituency service centres.

The delegation was led by the Minister of Works and Kapit MP, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi. He was accompanied by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law and Native Affairs) and Bukit Goram Assemblyman, Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, and Katibas Assemblyman, Lidam Assan.

The officials assessed the damage at Rumah Liun and met directly with affected families. They offered assurances that state and federal agencies would work in concert to facilitate recovery and reconstruction.

Immediate financial assistance was a key component of the visit. Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi provided RM1,000 in immediate cash aid for each family and announced a substantial federal allocation of RM70,000 per door for rebuilding the longhouse.

Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat contributed RM6,000 from his personal funds and pledged a further RM10,000 per door from his 2026 Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation. An additional RM15,000 was directed to the longhouse’s village security and development committee (JKKK).

Lidam Assan also offered support, donating RM5,000 from his own resources and committing RM10,000 from his MRP 2026 funds to the JKKK.

The initiative demonstrated a spirit of solidarity between government representatives and the people. The leaders reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to prioritise the welfare of the community.

Also present at the event were political secretaries Ambrose Abong Bugek and Watson Awan, alongside local officials and community leader Pemanca Pasang Tuba.
