Heartbreaking Farewell: PJ Student Fatally Stabbed Cremated in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM — The Form Three student who was fatally stabbed at a school in Petaling Jaya last week was laid to rest today at Nirvana Memorial Park, Section 21, Shah Alam.

The body of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen arrived at the memorial park at approximately 12.20pm. A sombre atmosphere filled the 20-minute ceremony, which was attended by around 100 people, including family members, friends, schoolmates, teachers, and members of the public who came to pay their last respects.

Yap is survived by her father, mother Wong Lee Ping, and her 19-year-old sister. The funeral service began at 9.45am, following a period where the public and loved ones could view the deceased lying in repose inside the ceremonial hall.

During the ceremony, the emcee delivered a eulogy in Mandarin, moving many attendees to tears. Yap’s mother was seen sobbing and wiping her tears while performing the customary three bows rite—a traditional gesture of respect for the deceased.

Outside the hall, numerous wreaths lined the pathway, and the service was broadcast live for media members gathered outside. As a final tribute, 100 balloons in Yap’s favourite colour were released, symbolising her freedom and final journey.

Earlier reports stated that the tragic incident occurred on October 14, when Yap was stabbed in the chest and neck by a 14-year-old male student at the same school. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect has since been remanded for further investigation.

Following the ceremony, Yap’s casket was transported to the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam for the cremation, marking the end of a heartbreaking farewell to a promising young life cut short. – Malay Mail
