KUALA LUMPUR – Thousands of Sarawakians residing across Peninsular Malaysia gathered under one roof this weekend, demonstrating a powerful spirit of solidarity at the Lan Berambeh Sarawak (LBAS) 2025 event.
Held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), the annual gathering serves as a crucial bridge connecting the aspirations of the diaspora with the leadership of the Sarawak government.
Organised by Sarawak Volunteers, the programme operates under the slogan “Unity in Diversity is the Foundation of Prosperity”.
This theme underscores the collective strength derived from the state’s multi-ethnic and multi-faith society, a vital component in achieving Sarawak’s ambition to become a developed and prosperous region by 2030.
The event featured the direct involvement of state leaders, including Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. He conducted a Sarawak Agenda Townhall session, a forum designed specifically to hear the views and ambitions of the younger generation residing outside their home state.
In the lead-up to the main event, attendees were treated to a diverse array of activities. These included a dedicated Sarawak Expo, the Kenyalang Speaks forum, and the Kenyalang Career Initiative.
Other highlights were the Sidang Siswa Sarawak, a pitching session known as Croc’s Tank, a special Pocket Show edition, and the Sarawak Live Kitchen. These events collectively showcased innovation, local identity, and the creative spirit of the Sarawakian people.
The pinnacle of the evening was a grand dinner, set to be attended by the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. This segment is intended to honour Sarawakians building their careers abroad.
Extensive preparations for the event were finalised in the days prior, with the construction of exhibition halls, a main stage, and interactive areas nearing completion.
The collaborative effort involved multiple state government agencies, the organising secretariat, and a network of Sarawakian volunteers working throughout the peninsula.
A significant exhibition element featured 89 stalls in total. This included 10 stalls within the Kampung Kamek Pavilion, which displayed historical elements, current and future development plans, cultural artefacts, and profiled leaders instrumental in the state’s progress. A further 79 stalls formed the Sarawak Dreams Exhibition.
LBAS 2025 also functioned as a vibrant cultural showcase for the wider community. It offered a chance to appreciate the uniqueness of Sarawak through displays of local products, traditional entertainment, and food stalls offering authentic cuisine, all highlighting the rich cultural tapestry of the Land of the Hornbill.
Considerable attention was given to security and logistical arrangements, with MITEC management and security personnel working in concert to ensure a comfortable and safe experience for all visitors.
The event stands as a testament to the enduring connection Sarawakians maintain with their homeland, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose far from their native borders.
