Sarawak Governor Returns to Kuching After Officiating UTS Convocation

KUCHINGHis Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, Governor of Sarawak and Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), safely returned to Kuching on 8 November after an official visit to Sibu Division.

Accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, His Excellency arrived at the Hornbill Skyways Terminal at 3.45 pm following their departure from Sibu Airport.

The couple was joined by YB Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agency, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), and his wife Datin Hajah Siti Shorgayah binti Ahmad Zaidin. Their arrival was warmly received by officers of Astana Sarawak.

Earlier in the day, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi officiated the 10th Convocation Ceremony of UTS, held at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor Hall in Sibu. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the university, celebrating graduates across various faculties.

In his address, the Governor expressed gratitude for the smooth organisation of the event and extended his congratulations to all graduates.

He urged them to apply the knowledge gained during their studies to contribute meaningfully to society and the development of Sarawak.

His Excellency emphasised that education is a cornerstone of progress and encouraged graduates to uphold the good name of UTS while serving the community and nation.

The Governor and his consort also conveyed their appreciation to the university’s management, lecturers and staff for their dedication in ensuring the success of the convocation. Their presence at the ceremony underscored the importance of higher education in shaping Sarawak’s future.

The convocation highlighted UTS’s role in producing graduates equipped with skills to meet the challenges of modern society.

It also reinforced the institution’s commitment to supporting Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), which focuses on innovation, sustainability and digital transformation.

As the Governor returned to Kuching, the official visit was seen as a reflection of Sarawak’s strong support for education and its determination to nurture future leaders.

The ceremony and subsequent arrival in Kuching symbolised the state’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and community development.
